Transaction Confirmation - User Feedback

June 4, 2026

Ever wondered why you frantically check your bank account after making a UPI payment, even when the app says "Success"?

How Apps Solve It

PhonePe displays a full-screen success animation with a green checkmark, payment amount, and recipient details, followed by an SMS and push notification. Swiggy takes a different approach—after payment, they show a real-time order tracking screen with estimated delivery time, skipping the traditional confirmation page entirely. CRED goes theatrical with their signature slot machine animation and reward points, making users wait 3-4 seconds before revealing the transaction status. While PhonePe provides instant clarity, Swiggy assumes success and moves users forward, and CRED gamifies the waiting period to reduce payment anxiety.

The Design Pattern

This is called the Transaction Confirmation Pattern—the immediate feedback mechanism that assures users their money transfer or payment was successful. It typically includes visual confirmation (animations, color changes), transaction details, and next steps. When apps get this wrong—showing generic messages, unclear status, or no confirmation at all—users panic, make duplicate payments, or abandon the platform entirely.

Why It Matters

Indian users process over 8 billion UPI transactions monthly, often on spotty internet connections where confirmation delays cause genuine anxiety. Designers constantly debate the balance between thorough confirmation (which feels safe but slow) versus swift acknowledgment (which feels fast but uncertain). The pattern directly impacts user trust and repeat usage.
